STREET HAVEN TRAINING SERVICES

The Street Haven Training Services provides free Educational, Life Skills and Pre-Employment services for women. We deliver programming that is flexible and women-centred.  We offer unique programs to support women’s educational, employment, and independence pathways: 

Upgrade Your Learning: Digital Literacy and Academic Upgrading

Our Digital Literacy program offers the opportunity for:

  • Computer Access in our computer lab
  • Support from our Digital Facilitator for workshops and one to one help to learn MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and more
  • Assistance with online job searching
  • Internet access; support with email, printing and online applications
  • Women can reserve one hour in advance on the computer or drop in to access our computer lab and business resource centre. 


Our Academic Upgrading program offers the opportunity to upgrade skills in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Communications


Learners can choose to receive one-on-one tutoring, participate in small learning groups, or join our classroom to upgrade their skills. We tailor our lesson plans and learning activities to learners’ self-identified interests and goals.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Digital Literacy program is open to all women in the community

The Academic Upgrading program is open to individuals who:

  • 19 years or older
  • Have strong English conversational skills
  • Residents of Ontario


Life Skills Workshops

We provide assistance and support for women at all stages of the employment pathway. Through the Life Skills Workshops, women can receive guided assistance towards their goals of employment, increased independence and stability.

We provide individualized consultations, where learners receive assistance to complete applications, learn about exciting programs offered in the community, or receive advice and training beneficial for their educational and employment goals, and more. 
 
We also provide free workshops for women on the following topics:

  • Self Confidence, Self Motivation
  • Financial Literacy (Budgeting, Spending Plans, Basic Banking)
  • Creative Writing
  • Rent Smart


Employment Essentials Programs for Ontario Works Recipients

  • Interested clients please contact your Ontario Works caseworker to register

  • 10 week pre employment training delivered in person and online
  • Career Exploration
  • Life Skills
  • Job Searching
  • Computer Skills
  • Employment Training


WRAP Around Service Program:

  • Virtual Life Skills and Creative Writing Workshops
  • Individual Weekly Wellness Check in Phone Calls
